Faq : Retrieval of the Unit

1. What needs to be done to retrieve the cord blood unit?

To retrieve the cord blood unit, just notify Cryoviva. Your physician and Cryoviva will then schedule the transfer date and work out the details for the transfer.

2. Is there a cost to retrieve my baby's stem cells if needed in the future?

Since you own the preserved cord blood unit, there is no charge for retrieval. However there is a transportation fee as the unit would be required to be transported in a special container to the transplant location in order to maintain cryogenic temperatures. When you require the preserved stem cells, all you have to do is contact us. When the appropriate documentation is in place, your baby's stem cell will be given to you in the shortest span possible.

3. What happens if someone in my family needs my baby’s cord blood?

The preserved cord blood stem cells are, of course, available as a perfect match for the child from whose umbilical cord they were collected. Because there is a 1-in-4 chance of a perfect match with a sibling, parents may choose to make the cord blood available to siblings or potentially other family members who may need them. That decision is theirs alone.

4. Who has access to our cord blood?

The parent / legal guardian(s) until the child obtains 18 years of age has the sole right to the cord blood unit. The identities of the cord blood owner and parents are kept confidential at the cord blood bank at all times. Once your cord blood is processed and stored through Cryoviva, it is reserved for your family only.
